I'm thinking you need a copy of The Paper Bag Princess!
I tried to counter with Belle ("Beautiful AND smart!") but she was having none of it. Finally I told her I only read stories to smart people, and she caved (slightly).
You might like Cornelia Funke's picture book, The Princess Knight. Clever princess outwits fatherin search of her own happily ever after.Good luck!
